    Earthquakes  

    Students will learn plate tectonics, what causes earthquakes, where earthquakes happen and how seismologists “predict” earthquakes. Students will also learn about the distribution and mechanics of earthquakes, seismic waves and the surface manifestation of earthquakes. Students will understand the limitations and factors involved in predicting earthquakes. Students will be inspired by the excitement involved in learning about the powers and forces involved with natural disasters.


     
     
    Expert: Ilene Cooper  

    Ilene Cooper is crazy about wild weather, specifically earthquakes!  Ilene brings a wealth of knowledge of and passion for earthquakes.  Ilene is in the process of completing her Masters degree in Geophysics and has a BA in Education with coursework in meteorology.  Ilene also spent time at as the Education Specialist at the Southern California Earthquake Center.  As a classroom teacher, Ilene is able to effectively share information about earthquakes to all students.
