    Living Among the Environment: Hawaiian Culture  
    In this unit, students are encouraged to learn about the culture and history of Hawaii, at the same time applying the ideas of the importance of cultural pride to the students’ individual heritage as well as state history and its significance to the area in which they live.

     

    Through this video, students will learn about the unique history and culture of Hawaii. Students learn about ancient Hawaiian beliefs and practices, emphasizing a deep connection to the land or 'aina.

    Compare your school day to that of a student at a Hawaiian Immersion school on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. At this special K-12 school, students learn in native Hawaiian, with English taught as a second language in fifth grade. This video compliments the Passports on Hawaiian culture.
